Women are full of mystic, but also full of mystery. They do a lot of things that we don’t often quite get right away. One day she is as distant, dark and cold as the moon. The next she’s full of warmth, laughter and you find her moving a little closer to you. Usually you can identify the mood she is in and what her gestures mean, but sometimes it seems impossible to decode her. We get it. You just need a little help figuring out what it means when she does things like play with her hair. And you may be even more puzzled if she starts doing it mid conversation. What’s that all about? Is she being rude? Is she being flirty?
Unfortunately, this isn’t one of those things that has one meaning behind it. Women play with, twirl and pull at their hair for several different reasons. That is why it is extremely important to be observant as to what else is going on when she does it. Read into your surroundings, pick apart your conversation and take a step back to review your relationship with each other. After you do that, you can choose which one of the following reasons fits your situation the best.
She’s Flirting
Unlike men, women are a lot less straightforward when it comes to pursuing men. Or so we think. Contrary to the prior belief, they’re actually just really good at being subtle; the signs are definitely always there! Yes, one of those signs is when she is playing with hair. But it will be in a peculiar motion. When a girl is flirting, you find that she will twirl the ends of her hair and also wrap tendrils around her fingers. The motion will be slow. Biology tells us that most men are attracted to beautiful hair on woman. Women subconsciously know that and use it as a way to appear seductive. She may also use this chance to move hair out of the way to show you more skin, such as her neck or her cheeks. This is a way to get your eyes on her while the two of you are talking. Is she smiling while she does it? Is she maintaining complete eye contact with you? Do you find that she is leaning closer to you? Those are all signs that go along with playing with her hair while flirting.
She’s Uncomfortable
Unfortunately, this type of body language can do a total turnaround. It could turn out to mean something extremely negative. It’s up to you to figure out which one it is by paying attention to your surroundings, as well as to your conversation. Have you been talking about something that she has mentioned makes her uncomfortable? Did her mood change from happy to not so happy fairly quickly? Did you approach her without warning or invitation? Keep those things in mind when trying to figure it out.
If she is uncomfortable, she will not twirl her hair. She will tug at her hair or continuously run her fingers through it rapidly. This kind of gesture could also mean that she is nervous or stressed out. Any sort of pulling, plucking or tousling is not a good sign.
She’s Bored
You might find a girl will start playing with hair when she feels boredom. This is not something in your favor at all. If you find that she has started to braid her hair mid conversation, you might as well just walk away. She’s lost all interest in you at this point or at least enough interest to find the desire to focus on something else. When you are talking with someone you usually want their full attention. If she’s not giving it to you and suddenly ‘doing’ her hair as if she was getting ready for the day, then you have totally lost her.
She’s Excited
At times when she plays with her hair it will mean nothing more than she is in a good mood at the time. She may not be flirting or upset, but simply just excited about something. Why do women do this? Because it gives them an outlet for their excitement. In other words: She’s fidgeting. When she is excited she will go back to twirling her hair, but she will do it in a much quicker motion than she would if she was trying to be seductive. She may even pull at it, but much more gently than she would if she was nervous. This is not as common as the previous reasons, but can sometime be the case.
