Peter Obi, the running mate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has claimed that the Igbo Leaders and Governors only disagreed with the process that allowed him emerge as the vice presidential candidate and not with him being the chosen person.
Obi visited Governor David Umahi in the Government House, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital and said that he was in the State to seek Umahi’s support.
“Umahi is our Leader, he is a man of impeccable character. He was at the centre of the storm, but I want to tell the people that Umahi and Igbo Leaders were misrepresented badly.
“Igbo Leaders never disagreed with my nomination as VP Candidate, but disagreed with the process; but I am here to solicit for your support”, he said.
Peter Obi added: “PDP as a party is desirous of returning to power at the center, not just because we want to return to power, but because we have seen that in our country Nigeria, every indices of development today is heading south, and we cannot continue that way.
“In terms of borrowing and all other indices, everything is heading south. So PDP wants to come back and continue rebuilding the nation.”
Reacting, Umahi commended Peter Obi for his humility and described him as an asset to the country and the PDP.
He promised to support Peter Obi and the PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2019 general elections; technically dumping any kind of support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, and his running mate, Yemi Osinbajo.
Recall that the Ebonyi state Governor, Dave Umahi reportedly rejected the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s offer as his South East campaign coordinator.
One Uchechukwu who claims to “know more about the governor more than his cabinet members” shared a report which alleged that Umahi is considering working for another party come 2019.
“When I said it that Umahi will never work for Atiku Abubakar as against president Buhari’s reelection, some political neophytes called me all kinds of names not knowing that I know much about my governor than most of his cabinet members. I will never mind the amounts of unwarranted attacks being received from many quarters as a result of standing on the side of truth, fairness and justice. Never!”
“Gov Umahi during his EXCO‘S meeting yesterday told his followers that he will never work for Atiku Abubakar, that by December, the Christmas rice he is going to share to Ebonyians will be branded with the name and picture of President Buhari. That he (umahi) will never campaign for Atiku anywhere. And i asked; why not with the name and picture of Atiku Abubakar, why that of President Buhari?”
“We have been saying this that Gov Umahi is under assignment to deliver APC in Ebonyi and federal level as a prerequisite to getting a ministering position as a reward. Now, the evidences are bound as he has made us to understand that he will not work for Atiku Abubakar. Save this post and bring it on during Christmas time. It is time to know those who are deceiving the general public.”
Umahi has since denied rejecting his appointment as the South east campaign coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Alahaji Atiku Abubakar.
Umahi made this known while briefing journalists in Abakaliki shortly after an enlarged security meeting attended by all security chiefs, council chairmen and coordinators of the 64 development centres at the exco-chambers, government house.
The governor represented by the Commissioner of Information and State Orientation, Senator Emmanuel Onwe said he didn’t reject the appointment as was alleged by mischief makers.
