Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a governorship aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state, may have dashed his chances of winning the party’s ticket after appearing to have said that the APC rigged to win the Osun governorship poll. It was learned that the APC aspirant, who is barely 48 hours away from going head-to-head against the incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, for the party’s ticket, explicitly said his party won the election in a crooked and unenviable manner. This may have landed him in trouble as Sanwo-Olu is purportedly being supported by the Mandate Group loyal to National Leader of the APC Bola Tinubu. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday morning declared Gboyega Oyetola the winner of the Osun election after two ballots. Oyetola was declared winner after the collation of the results of the supplementary election in seven polling units at the head office of the commission in Osogbo, the Osun state capital. INEC Returning Officer Prof. Joseph Fuwape said Oyetola polled 255,505 votes to defeat Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had 255,023 votes. But the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has since rejected the outcome of the poll, vowing to challenge at the electoral tribunal. The party accused the ruling APC of partnering INEC to rig the re-run election. And in his reaction to the Osun poll, Sanwo-olu, in a message he personally shared on a Whatsapp group with members of his inner campaign caucus (Sanwo-Olu 4 Gov. Lagos), said his party won the Osun election in a crooked and unenviable manner.
In the message sent at exactly 6.42pm on Thursday with his Airtel number, Sanwoolu said: “as much (as) I want our great party APC to win in Osun, am not happy with the way adopted to win. It shows we have no principle and no different from PDP…” It was gathered that members on the platform were stunned by the APC aspirant’s comments
Reports have it that Sanwo-olu’s verdict on his own party has sent jitters round the APC hierarchy especially his sponsors who think not only could this leaked message be picked up by the opposition PDP in Osun but has also exposed him. It was also gathered that both Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi, who is rumoured to have sold the Sanwo-olu candidacy to the Mandate Group, are livid and disappointed at this scandalous revelation.
